Bermagui and the Sapphire Coast
Quiet beaches, coastal walks and a working harbour, on the unspoilt far south coast of New South Wales.
The Sapphire Coast
Turn off the highway and take a deep breath
Bermagui sits on the far south coast of New South Wales, within the unspoilt natural beauty of the Sapphire Coast. Explore magnificent scenery, coastal bush walks, quiet beaches and lakes in the nearby national parks and state forests, with the renowned Blue Pool, Horse Head Rock and Camel Rock all close by.
From The Anchorage it is a 7 minute walk to the harbour and marina, and about 15 minutes to the town centre and the beaches. Mimosa Rocks National Park is just up the road.
Things to see and do

Beaches and the Blue Pool
Golden sand, the famous Blue Pool ocean rock pool, and Horseshoe Bay, all close by. The beaches around Bermagui stay quiet even in summer, and the Blue Pool sits carved into the rock platform below the headland.

Camel Rock and Horse Head Rock
Two of the most photographed rock formations on the south coast, both minutes from town. Camel Rock is best at sunrise, and Horse Head Rock is reachable on foot at low tide.

Bermagui Fisherman's Wharf
A working harbour with the Fish Co-op, waterfront dining and boats coming and going all day. It is a seven minute walk from The Anchorage, and one of the best spots in town at sunset.

Fishing and boating
One of the great fishing towns of the coast, with a working harbour and the boat ramp close by. There is secure boat parking on site, and a freezer for your bait and your catch.

Paddle boarding and kayaking
Swim, surf, sail, kayak or stand up paddle board on the river and the bay. The river is flat and sheltered, so it suits beginners and children as much as it does the experienced.

Coastal walks
Headland tracks, river trails and bush walks through the national parks and state forests. Mimosa Rocks National Park is just up the road, and the coastal path starts a short walk from your door.

Gourmet Coast Food Trail
Local produce, oysters and seafood straight off the boats, along one of the best food trails in the state. The Fish Co-op is a seven minute walk from your door, and the town has more good cafes than a place this size has any right to.

Wineries and breweries
Visit the local wineries, breweries and distilleries dotted through the hinterland behind Bermagui. Most are an easy drive, and several do tastings and long lunches through the cooler months.

Whale watching
The northern migration runs May to August, and the southern migration September to November, often close enough to watch from the headland. Bring binoculars and give it half an hour.

And so much more
Markets, galleries, national parks and more. See what is on while you are here, or come and discover the rest for yourself.
Golf on the Sapphire Coast
Three 18 hole championship courses within an easy drive, and the closest one is in Bermagui itself.
Bermagui Country Club
In Bermagui, minutes from your door. An 18 hole championship course of almost 6,100 metres off the back markers, par 72, laid out as two returning loops of nine. Water comes into play at the par three 15th and the par five 18th, and there are views over the town, Horseshoe Bay and Gulaga.
Narooma Golf Club
About 23km north, roughly 25 minutes. An 18 hole clifftop course above the ocean, best known for Hogan's Hole, where you tee off across the water with the surf breaking below you.
Tura Beach Country Club
About 63km south, a little under an hour. An 18 hole par 73 designed by Peter Thomson and Mike Wolveridge, opened in 1982, winding down through eucalypt forest towards the beach and back with ocean views from the tees and greens.
